Tips for travelling abroad:
  • Ensure passport have at least six(6) months' validity
  • Check visa requirements for entry to your destination
  • Ensure that onward/return tickets are confirmed
  • Check on health and vaccination requirements
  • Bring along adequate funds
  • Get full travel and medical insurance to cover illness, injury and loss of money, baggage, tickets, etc
  • Bring along doctor's prescription if you have to carry medication or drugs. You may need to show this to the customs checkpoint.
  • Apply for Exit Permit if necessary
  • Find out more about the country you intend to visit
  • Carry photocopies of your identity card and passport data page, credit cards and note down travel cheque numbers, if any
  • Obtain address and contact numbers of the nearest Singapore Mission
  • Leave a copy of your itinerary with your family/friends and inform them of where you are going and how you can be contacted
New Guidelines implementation for Liquids, Aerosols and Gels in Singapore:

From 8 May 2007, Singapore is implementing new guidelines that restrict the amount of Liquids, Aerosols and Gels in hand-carry luggage. The guidelines apply to all flights departing Singapore.


Passengers are advised to check-in all Liquids, Aerosols and Gels that do not meet the new guidelines:

  • Liquids, Aerosols and Gels must be in containers with maximum capacity of 100ml
  • Containers must be placed in a 1 litre transparent re-sealable plastic bag
  • The re-sealable plastic bag must be completely closed
  • One re-sealable plastic bag allowed per person
  • The re-sealable plastic bag must be presented seperately at the security screening point
  • Exemptions made for medications, baby food and special dietary items

Liquids, Aerosols and Gel include:

  • Drinks, Soups and sauces
  • Perfumes and deodorants
  • Creams, balms, lotions and oils
  • Mascara and lip gloss
  • Toothpaste
  • Shaving foam and hairspray
  • Hair and shower gels
  • Contact lens solution
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MFA) has produced an information leaflet for travellers, titled "Have a Good Trip!" containing information on how travellers can prepare for their overseas travel and also in dealing with any difficulties which may arise during their trip. In addition, there is an eRegister facility that allows travellers to register with MFA, which will allow MFA to provide necessary assistance in event of emergency.
